How to Water Your Lawn
We are well into lawn watering season here in Northern Virginia, and this summer’s heat is testing even the most disciplined lawn-care routines.
Here are some tips to help make sure you stretch every drop of water as far as you can:
– Water deeply, not frequently: Lots of water once or twice per week is more effective than a little water every day.
– Water only when needed: If you walk on grass and leave footprints, it’s probably time to water.
– Cut down on evaporation: Use sprinklers that distribute low, large drops–not high, fine ones that are more susceptible to evaporation and being blown away from your intended target.
– Water at the right time: Water early in the day to avoid evaporation from the hot sun.
